What sustains you?

Sustainability is a topic close to my heart.

The definitions from Dictionary.com that resonate for me around the word sustain are "to keep up or keep going" and "to hold up and be supported."

Sustainability, for me, is something I cultivate in all aspects of my life, especially my health. It is about maintaining an intention or movement towards a goal over the long term, and I do this by putting resources and habits in place that will naturally support and hold up my intentions.

For example, I manage my pain and sustain energy and focus over time by sticking to a daily self-care routine that includes meditation, Reiki, yoga, exercise, and good sleep habits, and I utilize healthy resources like herbal tinctures from THC's Iris Weaver and wholesome, organic, unprocessed foods that I keep handy.

My move to Salem this week was a lot of work, and in the past something like this would have resulted in a difficult fibro flare-up that left me in bed for a few days. This time was different. Over the last year or so, I really worked on developing my sustainability structures and leaned into my routines and healthy resources.

This allowed me to make this move without falling to pieces, though don't get me wrong - I am as exhausted and discombobulated as anyone who just moved would be! I just don't happen to have the extra burden of recovering from a fibro flare-up. Phew!

Sticking with my resources and routines allow me to function at my best most of the time so that fibromyalgia is not an impediment to my life and career. It allows me to sustain momentum towards other goals in my life because I feel my best and can give those goals my attention and love.

The same principles for sustainability can apply to growing and running a heart-centered or holistic business.

Structures and resources can be put into place so that it runs efficiently and smoothly and gives you the spaciousness to connect with your clients from your heart. Read the last Step in in the Six Steps for Success on how to create sustainability in your business by building on your priorities.

As I settle into my new home in Salem, I continue to work with my colleagues at The Healing Center, Reiki students and clients who are growing their heart-centered businesses.
